We maintain detailed digital records throughout, including installation photos, location data, and product traceability, to support compliance, smooth handovers, and the Golden Thread.
FIRAS certification you can trust
Firetech UK has been a proud member of the FIRAS third-party certification scheme for over 20 years. FIRAS, operated by Warringtonfire and accredited by UKAS, is the longest established and most widely recognised scheme for verifying the competence of contractors in passive fire protection.

As a FIRAS-certified company, Firetech is regularly audited to ensure our business processes, quality systems and onsite delivery meet the highest industry standards. In addition, all our supervisors and installers are individually assessed by FIRAS to confirm their technical competence and understanding of compliance requirements.

For every project we complete, we issue a FIRAS Certificate of Conformity. This provides independent assurance that the work has been carried out to a verified standard, supporting regulatory compliance, traceability, and the principles of the Golden Thread.

Firestopping FAQ

What is firestopping and why is it important?
Firestopping is the process of sealing gaps and penetrations in fire-resisting walls and floors to prevent the spread of fire, smoke, and toxic gases. It plays a critical role in maintaining compartmentation within a building, helping to protect occupants and limit property damage during a fire.
Where is firestopping typically required?
Firestopping is required wherever services such as pipes, cables, and ductwork pass through fire-rated walls, floors, and ceilings. It is also used to seal joints and linear gaps in fire compartment lines and around structural elements.
Is firestopping a legal requirement?
Yes. Firestopping is a legal requirement under UK Building Regulations. Approved Document B which requires that any breaches in fire compartments be properly sealed with fire-tested systems. Non-compliance can result in enforcement action or liability in the event of a fire.
What types of firestopping products do you use?
We use a wide range of third-party tested and certified products, including:
-
Intumescent sealants
-
Ablative Coated Fire Batts
-
Fire collars and wraps for pipes and cables
-
Fire Mortars and Compound
-
Cable Transit Sealing Systems
All products are selected to match specific penetrations and substrates in accordance with manufacturer test data.
How do you ensure firestopping is compliant?
We are a FIRAS-accredited contractor, which means our company, systems, and installers are regularly assessed by an independent third party. We follow strict installation guidelines, maintain comprehensive digital records, and issue a FIRAS Certificate of Conformity for every project to demonstrate full compliance.
Can you survey existing firestopping in a building?
Yes. We offer firestopping surveys and compartmentation inspections to assess the condition and compliance of existing firestopping. These surveys help identify areas of concern and recommend remedial actions to bring your building up to standard.
